Abstract

423,772. Valve circuits for wireless reception ; valve modulating circuits. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd., Electra House, Victoria Embankment, London.-(Assignees of Travis, C. ; 354, West Allen's Lane, Philadelphia, U.S.A.) April 24, 1934, No. 12343. Convention date, April 27, 1933. [Class 40 (v)] In an oscillator-modulator of the multi-grid valve type, the oscillation is sustained by energy fed back jointly by an intermediate anode-grid and by the plate of the valve, with the object of maintaining the oscillation at constant frequency and amplitude despite variations in the voltage of an outer grid. As shown in Fig. 4, applied to a superheterodyne wireless receiver, oscillation is sustained in the tuned circuit 12 of the inner grid 1 by two feed-back coils 13, 28, one of which 13 is connected through a voltage-reducing resistance 14 to the anode-grid 2, and the other 28 to the valve plate 6. The incoming wave received at 19 is applied to the grid 4, which is shielded from the other electrodes by screens 3, 5 and volume control bias, automatic or manual, is applied to the grid 4 through the lead 20. When either coil 13 or 28 is used separately, variation of the control bias on the grid 4 alters the frequency and amplitude of the local oscillation, but by suitably proportioning the coils and using them jointly, the effects neutralize each other. A single feed-back coil may be used connected wholly or in part to both anode circuits, Figs. 2 and 3, (not shown). When applied to a transmission modulator, an audio-frequency transformer is used in the input to the grid 4, Fig. 5, (not shown). The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 includes a superheterodyne receiving circuit in which only the coil 13 is used as a ack-coupling to the circuit 12, the plate 6 being connected through a neutralizing condenser to a coil coupled to the signal input circuit 19. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 408,256.
