Abstract
423,163. Wireless receiving-apparatus. EVANS, C. J., and EVANS, S. C., 99, London Road North, Lowestoft. March 22, 1934, No. 10175/33. [Class 40 (v)] [See also Group XXXVIII] In a radio-gramophone, the switch for changing over from radio to gramophone operation or vice versa is controlled by the weight of the pick-up or tone arm. In one modification, the pick-up rest 50, Fig. 13, comprises a plunger switch which is depressed against the action of a spring 70. Removal of the pick-up allows the rest to rise, disconnecting terminals 60, 61, to open the heating circuit of valves not required for gramophone operation, and connecting contacts 68, 69 to close the pick-up circuit, Fig. 19, (not shown). Further contacts may be provided to close the circuit of the electric gramophone motor, Fig. 18, (not shown). Alternatively, where the motor is spring operated, an extension 195 of the rest 50 may carry a coupling member 197, Fig. 15, to operate a brake 205 on the turntable 209. The rest 50 may be operated to change over from radio to gramophone operation in conjunction with a rotary switch controlled by the movement of the pick-up arm towards the centre of the turntable, so that the rotary switch effects a change over from gramophone to radio operation at the conclusion of the record Figs. 20-23, (not shown). In a further modification, a plunger switch may be actuated when the pick-up is lowered onto the turntable. A guide arm, connected to the pick-up arm, travels along a track in which an elevation occurs at the end of the record, so that the pick-up is automatically lifted and the switch released.
