Abstract
422,454. Valves. RUNTE, E., 64, Hegibachstrasse, Zurich, Switzerland. Aug. 20, 1934, Nos. 23945 and 23946. Convention dates, Aug. 19, 1933 and June 4, 1934. [Class 135] Two constructions of valves with electromagnetic locking devices preventing their opening (except by a special operation) in the event of failure or cutting-off of the electric current from any cause, are described, for use where the current is required for igniting gas passing through the valve, or where the electric circuit includes a fuse or other control device. In Fig. 1, rotation, to a slight extent from closed position, of a knob 5 carrying a switch detent 15 permits closing of contacts at 14. Should current then flow through the coil of a stationary electromagnet 8 a locking-plunger 9 is withdrawn from a slot 11 in the knob 5, and the knob 5 may be turned further to open the valve fully. Should the current, however, have failed and it is still desired to open the valve, plunger 9 may be depressed by a fingerbutton 12. In Fig. 4, (not shown), the electromagnet is mounted on the lower end of the cock to turn therewith ; contact is made through slip-rings and a locking disc is raised clear of stationary projections should current flow.
