Abstract
<PICT:0421838/III/1> The evaporation of gasoline in closed storage tanks is diminished by reducing the vapour tension of the gasoline vapours by direct contact with water or water vapour inside the tank. As shown, the gasoline tank 1 has, supported by transverse members 2, open vessels 17 and closed vessels 3, 4 supplied with water from a container 6 on the roof 7 of the tank through tubes 8, 18. As the pressure increases within the tank the vapours pass through tubes 9, 5 into vessels 4, 3 in turn where they pass up through the water. The still uncondensed vapours are led to a bent tube 10 forming a water seal from which the uncondensed residue exhausts to the atmosphere. By adjusting the water level in tube 10 the pressure of the vapour inside the tank may be controlled. The gasoline condensed in vessels 3, 4 overflows through conduits 11, 12 to the bottom of the tank 1. Filling and discharging conduits 14, 13 are provided at the bottom of the tank. A pipe 15 closed at the top by a screwed stopper 16 is provided to allow the level of gasoline in the tank to be determined by insertion of a measuring rod therein. Automatic means may be provided to control the supply of water to the tank, the discharge of water from the bottom of the tank, and like operations.
