Abstract
421,587. Switching systems for resistance heating apparatus. SHAW & SONS (SALFORD), Ltd., J., Wellington Street Works, Salford, Lancashire, and SHAW, J. B., 2, Woodhead Drive, Hale, Cheshire. June 23, 1933, No. 17915. [Class 38 (iv)] Heating-resistances a, b, c, d for a hot moulding-press are connected to supply mains i through a three-pole or like switch in the lower position of which all the resistances are in parallel for maximum heating, the upper position of the switch providing series connection of resistances a and d across the mains, the resistances b, c which are permanently in parallel being connected through a regulating resistance e to the mains. In the lower position of the switch a signal lamp j is brightly illuminated and in the upper position the lamp is dimly illuminated. The resistance e may be controlled by a thermostat to keep the temperature of the press constant. A thermostat on the platen of the press may be arranged to operate the switch through a relay so that the heating resistances are changed over when the platen reaches the " working " temperature.
