Abstract
421,018. Agglomerating fuel. HAZELZET, L. J. J., 16, Saftlevenstraat, Rotterdam. Jan. 16, 1934, No. 1620. Convention date, Jan. 16, 1933. [Class 50] A mixture of crushed fuel and amylaceous binder such as starch, dextrin, flour or waste products, e.g., comprising tapioca starch, is heated before moulding to at least 200‹ C., enough moisture being supplied to prevent carbonization or disintegration of the binder. Preferably superheated steam at about 400‹ C., and 1 atmos. pressure is blown into a kneading chamber containing the mixture, or hot gases may be employed and water added to the mass. In an example superheated steam at about 400‹ C., and 1À1 atmos. pressure is blown into a mixture of 100 parts anthracite duff and 1-3 parts dextrin and the mass at about 230‹ C., is conveyed to a press and briquetted at about 150‹ C.
