Abstract
419,111. Jib cranes. BABCOCK & WILCOX, Ltd., and HOLLICK, F. W., 34, Farringdon Street, London. Aug. 22, 1933, No. 23325. [Class 78 (iv).] A safe-load indicator or power cut-off for slueing cranes is actuated by relative movement under load between a point on the slueing structure and a point on the fixed base. As shown the bed-plate 1 is mounted on wheels to turn on the fixed base 2. The two wheels 6 which are remote from the jib are mounted on non-rotating axles 7 which are pressed towards the base 2 by plate springs 9 bearing against bars 10 on the housings 8, so that when the load on the wheels 6 is reduced by the increased overturning moment of the load on the crane the housings 8 rise relatively to the axles 7. The axles 7 are extended at 7<1> and connected by links 15 to opposite ends of a compensating lever, which actuates a multiplying lever 18. The lever 18 actuates two push-button switches through adjustable tappets and through cushioning springs so as to show a red light and to give an audible signal at two successive predetermined values of the overturning moment. The arrangement may also be used for cutting off power from the hoisting motor or from the luffing motor.
