Abstract
418,522. Printing-machines. GOSS PRINTING PRESS CO. OF ENGLAND, Ltd., and SMITH, E. J., 18, Whitefriars Street, Fleet Street, London. May 17, 1933, No. 14316. [Class 100 (ii).] Inking - apparatus.-Relates to the resilient mounting of bearings or supports for an inking roller of a printing - machine. An ink distributing roller 5, Fig. 1, adapted to be reciprocated longitudinally of an ink drum 6, is supported at each end in a bearing 7 provided with a preferably cylindrical extension 8 projecting at right angles to the axis of the roller and housed in a box 9 secured to a support 10. The extension 8 has a collar 11, secured thereto by a screw 14, between which and a sleeve 12 at the lower end of the box 9 is disposed a helical compression spring 13, whereby the roller 5 is urged into contact with the drum 6. In the construction shown in Fig. 3, an ink-feed roller 15, adapted to be oscillated between a fountain roller 16 and an ink drum 17, is mounted in bearings on a pair of arms 18 loosely mounted on a shaft 19. Each arm has an extension 20 projecting on the other side of the shaft 19, and keyed to the shaft are arms 24 opposite the extensions 20, so that a compression spring 25 can be located between each arm 24 and opposite extension 20. Each spring 25 surrounds a bolt 26 having a winged nut 27 by means of which the length of the springs may be adjusted. An arm 21 keyed to the shaft 19 has a roller 22 adapted to contact with a cam 23, whereby the shaft 19 is oscillated together with the arms 24, the movement of the latter being imparted to the extensions 20 and the arms 18 of the feed roller 15 through the springs 25. Instead of compression springs 25, torsion springs attached to the arms 18 and coiled about the shaft 19 may be employed, whereby when a torque is applied to the shaft and springs, the arms 18 are moved resiliently.
