Abstract

417,859. Preventing unauthorized use. EVERITT, J., 5, Green Terrace, Rosebery Avenue, London. April 6, 1933, No. 10285. [Class 7 (ii).] A rotary valve within the bonnet of a motor vehicle for controlling the petrol supply is operated through a co-axial rotary barrel lock which, when turned to cut off the petrol, locks the bonnet. A section 8 interposed in the pipe line 6, 7, is formed with right-angled passages 9 connected by a rotary disc valve 10 held against a packing disc 12 by a spring 18 on its stem 16, a flange 13 surrounding the valve faces with projections 14 providing stops for a lug 15 on the rotary member. The valve member 10 is operated through a lug 19 by the rotary member 21 of a barrel lock 22 carried, together with the pipe section 8, by a bracket 25 on the scuttle dash in proximity to the vertical bonnet flap 4. The lock member 21, which is operated by a key inserted through a hole 27 in the flap 4, is provided with an arm 24 which, when the barrel is turned through 90 to cut off the petrol, engages an inverted hook 28 attached to the flap, the hook being located against the under surface of an extension 29 of the bracket 25, so that outward and upward movements of the flap are precluded. A second lock for the flap, unconnected with a valve, may be provided in proximity to the radiator. The Provisional Specification describes an arrangement in which the shank of the rotary barrel lock is provided with a port which controls the petrol supply.
