Abstract

An automatic analysis apparatus for liquids comprises a sampling reservoir 5 which when full discharges by the siphon 6 into an analysis vessel 8 of smaller size from which most of the liquid is discharged again by siphon 9. One or more reagents <PICT:0417641/III/1> are supplied by the pipes 20, 21, controlled by the taps 22, 23, to the remaining liquid and the resulting colour change is indicated or recorded by optical, e.g. photo - electric means of known kind. The analysis vessel is mounted on a counterpoised beam 10 whereby on being filled it completes an electric circuit operating valves 24, 25 which admit further supplies of the reagents to the pipes 20, 21. The above-described arrangement of the sampling and analysis vessels ensures thorough rinsing of the latter between operations. The apparatus is suitable for detecting sugar in the condensation waters of a sugar factory.
