Abstract

417,540. Tools and tool - holders. ZAGRODZKI, W., 55, Koscielnia, Hajduki Wielkie, Polish Upper Silesia. July 5, 1933, No. 19033. [Class 83 (iii).] A tool-holder for turning or thread-cutting tools is adapted to receive tools whose shanks are formed as segments of a circle engaging the tool holder. along surfaces concentric with the tool-holder axis. The cylindrical tool-holder shank 10 is clamped between members 11, 12 by means of a lever 14 and bolt 13. The shank is rotatably adjustable after slacking back the lever 14 and is retained against axial movement by a spring bolt. A bolt 20 secured in the slide is engaged by screws 21 by which the clamp may be adjusted about the bolt 13 for setting the shank parallel to a conical pipe-end. To enable ordinary bar-shaped tools to be employed the shank 10 is provided with a recess 22 in which the tool may be clamped by a bolt 23. The interchangeable tools 9 are formed as ring sectors fitting around a concentric face 25 of the shank end. The bases of the tool elements may be of trapezoidal form and each tool is clamped between an inclined face 27 on the shank end and a corresponding face of a pressure plate 28 retained by a bolt 30 screwing onto the shank. The outer profiled edges 24 of the tools are concentric with the holder axis A, B so that the radial location of the cutting edge is unaffected by grinding, the correct height being obtained by locating the tools against a gauze 26. The tool elements are preferably made as closed rings and are then divided to form separate tools of identical form. A number of different tools may be arranged so that they may be brought successively into position to perform a number of different operations as shown in Figs. 4-6. While one of the tools is in operation any of the other tools may be changed if necessary without interrupting the cutting.
