[Class 37.] A variable resistance comprises a metal casing a with terminal e a fixed electrode secured to but insulated from the base with terminal connection b, a movable electrode plate g in contact with powdered resistance material f and pressed upwards by a spring pin contact at its two ends with the plate g and the base of the casing a respectively. The pressure on the plate g is varied to alter the resistance by a screw m insulated from the casing by washers n and from the electrode g by an insulating plate h and felt pad i. In a modification the sleeve l is insulated from the cover k, instead of the cover being insulated as shown.
