416,881. Screw propellers. VEREINIGTE DEUTSCHE METALLWERKE AKT.-GES., Einsal, near Altena, Westphalia, Germany.-(Assignees of Deutsche Versuchsanstalt f³r Luftfahrt E. V. ; Adlershof, Berlin.) Nov. 1, 1933, No. 30357. Convention date, Nov. 2, 1932. [Class 114.] In an adjusting-gear for variable-pitch propellers the variable gear is housed in a gear case enclosing the power shaft 1 and consisting of two halves 2, 3 of which one is fixed and the other is adjustable by the hand crank 4. Both halves carry respectively counter shafts 5, 6, on which are mounted gears 7, 8 ; 9, 10, gearing respectively with the gear 11 fast on the shaft 1 and the gear 13 loose thereon. The gears are linked by the common idle intermediate pinion 12. The gear 13 is connected to the propeller blades for adjusting the pitch through cone or worm gear 14, this adjustment being made by the angular displacement of the halfcasing 3 by the crank 4. In a modification where the drive includes increasing or reducing gear, one of the pinions is utilized in the adjusting-gear. In a further modification suitable for marine propellers, an auxiliary shaft is employed for the adjusting-gears and the adjustable half of the casing is replaced by a pinion mounted on the auxiliary shaft and carrying one of the counter shafts.
