[Class 51 (ii).] In rabbling apparatus of the kind in which the actual rabbling element 12, Figs. 2, 3, or 21, Fig. 5, is pivotally mounted on an arm 10 so as to tilt upon meeting any obstruction on the hearth 11 on which it operates, the arm 10 is of circular section and the element 12 or 21, carried by bearing lugs 14, is maintained in operative position by engagement against a stop 15 projecting from a collar 16 encircling the shaft 10. The collar is adjustable, by means of a set screw 17, on the shaft 10 to enable the normal distance between the rabble and the hearth 11 to be varied. If the weight of the rabble is insufficient to hold it in operative position, the bearing lugs 14 are provided with arms 23, Fig. 5, on which are adjustably secured weights 24. The head of the set screw 17 or the boss 18 into which it screws may be utilized as a second stop to support the rabble in inoperative position as shown in dotted lines in Figs. 2, 5. With the multiple-blade form of rabble shown in Figs. 2, 3, mixing of the material on the hearth 11 is effected by the provision of two or more arms, the blades on one moving the material outwardly and those of the following one inwardly. When a single scraper element 21 is used, mixing is effected by the provision therein of inclined slots through which some of the material passes into the path of a following scraper.
