Abstract

416,270. Percussive drills. COCK, B., Woodbine, Camborne, and HOLMAN BROS., Ltd., Camborne, Cornwall. Feb. 28, 1934, No. 6519. [Class 124.] In a percussive drill in which the tool is fed by the idle blows, the moving element carries two pawls 30,31. These engage teeth 42, 43, 44 on a bar 41. For forward feed the bar 41 is rotated to bring the teeth 42 uppermost, the rods 52 being twisted by arms engaging the cams 45, 46 so that the pawl 31 is raised by the plunger 37. For withdrawal the rod 41 is revolved to bring teeth 43 uppermost, pawl 30 is raised and pawl 31 lowered to contact with the teeth. To lock the carriage against motion either direction the teeth 44 are brought uppermost and are then engaged by both pawls. In a modification one set of teeth are provided on a flat plate, forward feed being obtained by a set of pawls and withdrawal by one pawl when the former are raised.
