Abstract
415,677. Gas holders. ESCHER WYSS MASCHINENFABRIKEN AKT. - GES., Escher-Wyss Platz, Zurich, Switzerland. April 17, 1934, No. 11545. Convention date, April 20, 1933. [Class 54.] The space above the disc plunger 2 of a dry gas holder is open except for a reinforcing framework 11 and the plunger is fitted with an electric heating device 19 for melting any snow falling upon it. Melted snow or rain water collects at the lowest part 12 of the plunger and is removed by a pump 13 through a jointed pipe 14. A suitable oil or other non-freezing liquid may be supplied by a pump 15 to a channel 16 at the top of the holder so as to flow as a film down the inside of the wall 1 to prevent the deposit of frost or ice. The oil is collected in a channel 18 on the plunger 2 and is pumped away through a pipe 21. Oil percolating through the leather ring of the plunger seal 22 and oil escaping from the channel 18 past the seal 22 is collected in a channel 23 at the bottom of the holder and thence raised by a pump 24 to the top of the holder where it is discharged from a pipe 25 on to a chain 26 leading to a tank 27 on the plunger communicating with the seal 22 by a pipe 28. The plunger is guided by cables 5, 6 which run over rollers 7, 8 and pass through liquid seals 9 on emerging from the gas space.
