Abstract
414,835. Stuffing - box substitutes. CARTER, C. W., 1, Buckingham Street, Liverpool, and THOMSON, E. A., 38, Holly Park, Finchley, London. April 11, 1933, No. 10753. [Class 122 (v).] A garter - spring 7 located in an inclined channel 6 between a ring 1 fast on the shaft 9 and the ring 5 loose thereon rotates and exerts axial pressure on the latter, which through the medium of pins 10 presses a second ring 8 against the fixed back plate 12. The soft ring 17 is thus impressed against the shaft 9 and a sealing is effected at this point as well as at the face 13. In a modification, the face of the back plate is supplied with a wearing-ring to which lubricant is supplied.
