Abstract

414,671. Hats &c. PUPIER, A., 15, Rue Michel-Ange, Paris. Dec. 2, 1932, No. 16395/34. Divided on 412,974. [Class 63.] A heating-device for preventing sickness consists of a heating element provided with a support having a thin portion extending therefrom, and an article of head-wear to which the thin portion is attached in such a manner that when the head-wear is placed on the head in an ordinary position, the heating device may rest against the occipital foramen. The heating element, preferably in the form of a segment of a circle, may be rigid and shaped to fit the head, or flexible, when it may be supported by springs, whalebone, &c., or deformable, and may comprise a plate enclosed in a support of cloth, leather, &c. The head-wear may be of any kind, e.g. a cap, hat, beret, bonnet, turban, or head-band, which may be fitted with an eyeshade or a net covering the top of the head. The support may be detachably secured to the head-wear by means of buttons, press-studs &c. which are fitted on the thin portion of the support, or the thin portion may be sewn to the inside of the headgear, and the heating device folded inside when not in use. In the arrangement shown, the heating element 2, which may be an electric resistance, is withdrawn by opening the press-studs 1<a> in the lower edge of the support. The press-studs 14 are opened to detach the lower edge of lining 13 from the cap 12 and the support 1 may be folded by its thin portion 3 inside the cap into the position 1<b>, and the press-studs refastened. The heating element may consist of a hollow member containing a heated fluid, or of an electric resistance which may be placed temporarily or permanently within the support. Current may be supplied by suitable batteries or a low-voltage transformer, and a rheostat may be provided to regulate the temperature. The resistance may also be subdivided into several groups which are connected to tappings on the transformer to regulate the temperature. Specification 412,974 is referred to.
