Abstract
In making joints in submarine cable insulation, the jointing material consists of a mixture of guttapercha or balata and polystyrol or its homologues, the insulation of the cables being of a different composition, e.g. of guttapercha or paragutta. Wax, caoutchouc or some other softening agent may be added when large proportions of polystyrol are used. A mixture may comprise 85 per cent deresinated balata and 15 per cent polystyrol.
