Abstract

<PICT:0414182/III/1> In apparatus for the electrical precipitation of suspended particles in gases, the passage of dust from the precipitation chamber b into the chamber a containing the insulators i is prevented by means of a screen of gas produced by jets in the ring-shaped pipe p which is arranged to operate in the opposite direction to any tendency of the gas under treatment to pass to the insulators, i.e. inwardly and downwardly. The pipe p is arranged at the throat of a tuyere t formed by oppositely disposed conical members and may be situated on the inside or the outside of the tuyere. The screen of gas may be of any suitable clean gas, e.g. a portion of the gases after treatment in the chamber b, and may be of just sufficient pressure to prevent entry of gases into the insulator chamber.
