Abstract

413,245. Automatic couplings for railway -vehicles. KRUPP AKT.-GES., F., Essen, Germany. March 6, 1934, No. 7118. Convention date, March 30, 1933. Addition to 384,560. [Class 103 (v).] In an automatic coupling incorporating a locking-pawl B and a controlling spring or like member F therefor as described in the parent Specification, the spring element and the releasing-lever C are connected to the pawl B about co-axial pivots b<2>. The spring element comprises a connecting-piece D pivoted on the pawl B and having a cylindrical extension d<1> on which slides a tubular member e<1> terminating in a guide member E. On the latter is a doubly inclined projection e<2> engageable by a nose c<5> on the lever C, which is also provided with a surface c<1> and two recesses c<2>, c<3> coacting with a lug a<6> on the coupler-head. Assuming the parts are in the coupled position as shown in Fig. 1, uncoupling is effected by moving one of the levers C outwardly, e.g. the upper lever, whereby the lug a<6> is brought into engagement with the recess c<2> and forms a pivot for the lever C. Thus the pawl B and pivot b<2> are retracted to the position shown in Fig. 2, and simultaneously the nose c<5> bears against the guide-piece E and compresses the spring F. A similar movement is imparted through an interconnecting element as described in the parent Specification to the other pawl B, pivot b<2> and guide-piece D. The pawls B are thus placed in such a position that, when the coupler-heads are drawn apart, the inclined surfaces on the latter cause the pawls B to be pushed further into their respective heads, while the lug a<6> is disengaged from the recess c<2>, thus permitting the spring F, as the coupler-heads separate, to rotate the lever C in the direction X, Fig. 2, and ultimately restore the parts to the position shown in Fig. 1. If the lever C is pushed to its extreme outward position the lug a<6> is engaged within the recess c<3>, and the coupling is rendered inoperative, e.g. for shunting purposes.
