Abstract

413,220. Aerating liquids. FERNHOLZ, E., 5, Hohenzollernkorso, Tempelhof, Berlin. Jan. 15, 1934, No. 1432. [Class 14 (i).] Amethod suitable for domestic purposes for the carbonation of liquids comprises the step of uniformly throttling the carbonic acid at the outlet from its container and instantaneously and automatically relieving excess pressure in the liquid when the liquid is saturated. Apparatus for carrying out the method comprises a carbon dioxide container 14, a closure 15 therefore incorporating a throttle valve 17, and a closure 2 for a liquid container 1 incorporating in parallel a non-return valve 4 and a relief valve 8. In the form shown, the closures 2, 15 are interengagable to open the throttle valve 17. On interengaging the closures, a hollow rod 6 forming part of the closure 2 raises the valve 17, so that carbon dioxide can pass into the container 1. When the liquid becomes saturated and a pressure of 5-6 atmospheres is attained in the container, the spring 9 of the diaphragm relief valve 8 being adjusted to this pressure permits the carbon dioxide to pass by way of lateral passages 13 beneath the raised diaphragm to the atmosphere. The mushroom throttle valve 17 is surmounted by a cap 19 having a throttling orifice 22.
