Abstract

412,721. Latches. PARKES, S. R., Pretoria Works, New Road, Willenhall, Staffordshire. March 29, 1933, No. 9443. [Class 44.] In a tubular mortise latch, the bolt consists of a lath B bent to U-shape and having the head C riveted or otherwise secured between its ends, and key-operated means may be provided to lock the latch. The latch is withdrawn against a spring S, mounted on a headed pin D which bears in a recess in the bolt head and is slidable through a fixed plate P, by a two-armed follower F engaging with slots E formed in the lath adjacent its rear end. The follower may consist of two cup-like sheet metal pressings or a one-piece casting. The locking means consists of a plate Q pivoted at M and having a projection O adapted to engage with the front end of one slot E ; the plate is held in or out of engagement with the slot E by a spring- pressed pin J co-operating with a projection N thereon. The pin J is pressed back when the key is turned by a sliding plate L having an upturned flange K co-operating with a shoulder on the pin. The latch casing is formed in two semi-cylindrical parts secured together by a screw, the fore-end plate G being riveted to one part. Specification 266,073, [Class 44], is referred to.
