Abstract
411,948. Forging nuts. ETCHELLS & SON, Ltd., D., and ETCHELLS, D. R., Bull Piece Works, Darlaston, Staffordshire. Dec. 31, 1932, No. 37023. [Class 83 (iv).] Dies.-In a nut forging machine in which a heated metal bar is fed with its forward end adjacent a stationary die and against a stop constituted by an extension of the die, the interior of the die comprises complete faces for forming all the faces of the nut in complete form except those presented to the front, these latter faces being produced either wholly by the indenting tools or two by the indenting tools and a third by the shearing off of the nut in the die. An extension a of the die A is shaped to correspond to four sides of a hexagon which is completed by indenting tools G when they enter the heated bar H and compress its end into the extension a. The edges g<1> of the tools G slightly overlap the hexagonal aperture in the die A into which the shaped end of the bar is pushed as it is severed from the stock by the usual tool B and punch C, Fig. 6, the blank engaging a snap tool D and punch E, the latter of which then moves forward to compel the blank to fill the die completely. Further movement of the punch E cuts out the burr, the punch C being simultaneously retracted. Finally, the punch E and snap tool D which is adapted to make a longer travel than usual, move together to eject the formed blank clear of the extension a.
