Abstract

411,927. Reciprocatory filing &c. machines. HILL, C. W., and SMITH, A. W., 47, Featherstone Street, London. Feb. 28, 1933, No. 12093/32. [Class 83 (iii).] The file 5 is mounted between upper and lower plungers 9, 18 respectively. The plunger 18 is guided in the base 1 and is reciprocated by an eccentric 4 belt driven. The plunger 9 is guided in a hollow cylinder 8 carried by an arm 6 detachably secured to the base 1. To maintain the tool under tension, a spring 10, Fig. 3, is arranged between the lower end of the cylinder 8 and a collar 11 loosely mounted on the plunger 9 and abutting against a pin 91 thereon. To relieve the tension on the tool when removing it, a hollow cylindrical implement 101, Fig. 2, is inserted in the upper end of the cylinder 8 to depress the collar 11 away from the pin 9<1> ; a pin 11<1> is passed through holes 81 in the cylinder 8 and holes 102 in the implement to hold the spring compressed. The tool 5 is secured in the lower end of the plunger 9 by means of a springy metal member 13 bent over to form two semi-circular jaws between which the end of the tool is clamped. The member 13 is lodged in a recess 14 in the end of the plunger 9 and clamped by a screw 15; the tool is similarly secured at its lower end to the plunger 18. Alternatively, the lower end of the plunger 9 has a longitudinal slot 28, Fig. 5, in which the tool is clamped by a screw 29 ; for fine tools a clamping plate 30 is placed between the screw 29 and tool 5, the plate being positioned by a roll 31 received in a hole 32 in the plunger. Where the tool used has a cross-pin this is received in a downwardly directed slot 34 in the plunger. The arm 6 may be removed and the plunger 9 guided in the lower end of a tubular member 22 held against a ceiling piece 26, Fig. 4, by three stays 24. The collar 11 is provided with lugs 27 projecting through vertical slots in the member 22 whereby the collar can be depressed to compress the spring. A pin is employed as before for holding the collar in its depressed position. A tiltable work-table 19 is mounted on the base 1, the angle of tilt being indicated by a pointer and a dial 21. Extension pieces 19<1> are secured to the table by screws. A foot 12 to steady the work is carried by the arm 6 or by the member 22.
