Abstract
411,849. Electric-lamp holders. GROTE, E. R., c/o British Electric Lamps, Ltd., Spencer Hill Road, Wimbledon, London. Dec. 8, 1932, No. 34829. [Class 39 (ii).] Holders for tubular electric incandescent lamps, of the kind comprising a casing formed in one or more portions of insulating material, preferably a synthetic resin, forming a complete encasement or shell in which the only apertures are those necessary to admit the lamp caps and the conductors, are arranged in spaced relationship on a support such as a reflector, with the portions of the conductors extending between the holders covered with insulating material or sleeves to form a close fit within their receiving apertures, which may be sealed in a watertight manner with cement. As shown in Figs. 3 and 7 the holder b comprises upper and lower portions b<2>, b<3> which may be secured together within a channel a<1> in the reflector a by screws passing through apertures h into the channel a<1>. Preferably the holders are mounted so that lamp terminals of one polarity only enter any one holder, one line conductor such as l<1> passing straight through within co-operating semi-cylindrical grooves in the upper and lower portions of the holder, while the other conductor l is bared along the length passing chord-wise within socket apertures f in the upper member b<2>. A length of spring wire m arranged parallel to the bared conductor is located within a groove and extends chord-wise on the opposite sides of the apertures f, these parallel wires formed resilient means for gripping and making contact with caps d projecting laterally from the tubular lamp e, the caps preferably being formed with peripheral grooves to improve the contact. A metal cover plate p of U-shaped cross-section may be secured over the mouldings by the screws which hold them within the channel a<1>. The holders b<1>, Fig. 2, forming the end of a series are formed with only one socket f, and may be formed with end apertures to receive hollow pins of a plug which may be inserted therein to connect the holders to the mains. Specifications 304,882, 336,418, [both in Class 39 (ii)], and 411,957 are referred to.
