[Classes 100 (i) and 100 (ii).] In an embossing or like press a guide of a curved or spiral form is so arranged in relation to the dies that a document inserted between the latter is caused to become rolled to a variable extent so that an impression can be made at any desired position on the document. In the example shown a spiral guide a of sheet metal has a lower horizontal portion b fixed substantially on a level with the upper surface of the fixed die member c, and a letter or document e passed between that die and the movable die d is guided by the member a so that it becomes rolled. The guide a may be double walled. In another example the guide may be constituted by the curved wall f of the press with a deflecting element fixed beneath the upper portion to force the paper into a spiral path. In a further example a transverse aperture is bored through the upper arm of the press and a slot is cut at a level with the dies and tangential to the aperture for entry of the leading edge of the document into the aperture. An inclined paper guide for facilitating entry of paper to the dies as described in Specification 412,025 may be employed.
