Abstract
In the production of potassium nitrate from potassium sulphate and nitric acid, the reaction components are used in such relative quantities that, after separation of potassium nitrate, the mother liquor is almost saturated with the double salt KHSO4. KNO3, as well as with potassium nitrate. Examples are given using varying strengths of nitric acid with separation temperatures for potassium nitrate of 25 DEG C. and 0 DEG C. Double salts or mixtures of potassium sulphate with sodium or magnesium sulphate may be used for the reaction. The mother liquors may be employed in the decomposition of phosphates.
