Abstract

410,752. Igniting in oil engines. KENNEDY, H. E., 105, Tunnel Road, Berkeley, California, U.S.A. Nov. 19, 1932, No. 32782. [Classes 7 (iii) and 7 (iv).] Ignition in an oil engine. is effected by causing high-tension sparks to pass continuously across the terminals of a spark plug 14 during the whole of the fuel injection period. The plug 16 is mounted in proximity to the fuel injector 12 ; the air is compressed before the fuel injection. The sparking starts just before injection commences. Igniting systems.-An alternator 15 supplies the current through a transformer and distributer 17, an interrupter 16 controlling the time during which sparking takes place. To ensure efficient working at starting of the engine an extra coil is mounted on the alternator field winding, this coil being in circuit with the starter motor 18.
