Abstract
410,513. Motor - vehicle frames. ASSOCIATED EQUIPMENT CO., Ltd., Windmill Lane, Southall, Middlesex, and STACK, G. F., 4, Grange Mansions, Grange Road, Ealing, London. Nov. 17, 1932, No. 32565. [Class 79 (iv).] A passenger vehicle of the kind required to leave a specified clearance 19 between the under parts and the ground over a specified clearance area 20 has one chassis longitudinal 11 with one part A located above the clearance level 19, but within the area 20 as viewed in plan, and is characterized in that another part 21 of the longitudinal 11 is sunk below the level 19, but is situated laterally outside the area 20. In the construction shown applied to a six-wheeled trolley-bus a side entrance or exit 18 is located over the sunk part of the longitudinal 11, a step 24 being provided below the floor level 25. The other longitudinal 12 has a sunk portion 26, but is above the clearance level 19 throughout and is connected to 11 by tie rods 13-16 and a bracing piece 17. Modifications are described for a fourwheeled vehicle in which (1) the longitudinals are mainly parallel throughout to the longitudinal axis of the vehicle, the longitudinal 11 being swept outwardly and downwardly below the side entrance, and (2) the longitudinal 11 is built up of a plurality of parts whereof two overlap one another at the cranked part of the longitudinal.
