[Class 6 (ii).] In cloches or portable garden frames in which relatively inclined plates of glass, asbestos, &c. are held together by a transverse member supporting their separated edges and by a pressure member engaging the transverse member and bearing on the adjacent edges of the plates, the pressure member is provided with a lateral arm adapted to hold apart the adjacent edges of the plates for ventilating purposes, on one or both sides of the transverse member. The V-shaped wire supporting member 13 has hooks 14 to engage the plates 11, 12. The wire pressure member 15 has a handle consisting of a closed loop, and has loops at its ends normally bearing upon the adjacent edges of the plates. Lateral arms 17 extend from each bearing point 16 and are bent to form catches 18 to hold the plate 11 open. Several catches 18 may be provided for adjustment purposes, and the wire 15 may be bent at the bearing points 16 to form catches. The arms 17 may be soldered to the wire 15, and may extend on both sides of it, so that either or both plates 11, 12 may be held open. In the modification shown in Fig. 5, each double arm 17 consists of a piece of wood pivoted on the upturned end of the member 15, the bearing points 16 and catches 18 being provided by grooving the wood, and the catches 18 being at a higher level than the upper edges of the closed plates. The arms may be turned through a right angle so as partly to cover the space between the plates in the closed position. The extreme ends of the arms 17 may be turned up to facilitate assembly of the cloche. Asbestos plates may be used instead of, or in addition to, glass plates.
