Abstract
407,263. Exercising apparatus. KEMPSON, A. H., 36, Bennett's Hill, Birming- ham. Aug. 31,1933, No. 24137. [Class 132 (i).] In exercising-apparatus of the kind which includes a frame provided with a seat, a crank axle and adjustable braking means so that the user can operate the crank axle against a resistance capable of variation, the supporting frame is constructed as a tripod. As shown, the frame comprises three tubular members, the two rear members 11 being arranged with their lower ends secured in a supporting strip 12. The three members are connected at the top by a bracket 13 adjustably supported in which is a seat 14. The forward member 10 has at the lower end a foot 15 and is connected to each of the members 11 by a stay 16, and is also provided with a bearing bracket having lugs into which are secured the ends of the stays 16 and having a horizontal tubular portion carrying a spindle 18 to which are secured a brake disc 19, a flywheel 20 and pedal cranks 21. The braking and control means may be the same as that described in Specification 396,334. To the upper end of the frame is attached a support for the handlebars 25 comprising a tube 26 secured in a lug in the bracket 13 and a stay tube 27. In a modification, the braking means may be as described in Specification 398,041. In a further modification the ends of the three frame members are secured in a wooden or metal triangular or T-shaped baseboard, and a separate hand support attachable to a door or the like may be provided. In a still further modification the rear members are connected by a tubular stay connected by a further stay to the forward member. Separate feet are provided for the lower ends of the frame tubes. In another modification the frame is substantially as shown in Fig. 1, but the handlebar support comprises an upwardly extending tube connected to the bottom of the forward member, and connected by a stay to the bearing bracket.
