[Class 97 (i).] In a spool for endless films having a horizontal axis, the core has a conical or inclined profile and a cylindrical portion adjacent its wider side. As shown in Fig. 1, the core 1 is secured to a disc 5 supported on a spindle 4 by a sleeve 6. The core has a curved inclined profile, and a cylindrical part 9 adjacent the disc 5 ; a pad 3 of felt, cork, or rubber, is provided on the core. The inclined profile may be straight or stepped. Fig. 5 shows a casing, containing the spool, which is hinged at 11 to a bracket 17 and secured by a spring catch 12. The casing has a spiral exit aperture 16, external filmguiding rollers 14, 15, and a slot 18 through which the film returns to the spool. In a modification, Fig. 7, the casing carries rollers 38, 39 guiding the film to a continuous-feed sprocket 21 of the projector, and a roller 40 round which the film returns to the spool. The film coils assume an oval form during winding, and a roller 26, on a spindle adjustable in a slit 28 in a bracket 30, is provided to support the outer turns ; the direction of the slit 28 is parallel to the major axis of the oval.
