406,262. Preparing bamboo &c. for pulp manufacture. INDIA PAPER PULP CO., Ltd., 8, Clive Row, Calcutta, India. May 18, 1932, No. 14144. Void [Abridged as open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, June 28, 1932]. [Class 96.] The rollers of a machine for crushing, flattening and spreading, or separating bamboo &c. for pulp manufacture have helical grooves with the circumferential displacement over their working length equal to or greater than their distance apart, thus ensuring uniformity of pressure. The bamboo is introduced through a conductor 20 and fed by spiked rollers 21 to the crushing rollers 22 &c. the grooves of alternate rollers being right and left-handed helices, the rollers of each successive pair being spaced closer together. The rollers may be pressed together by springs with screw adjustment; those rollers near the delivery end may be the more finely grooved, and there may be interspaced a pair of cutting rollers 23 such as those described in Specification 406,261. The bamboo is preferably soaked 2 or 3 days before treatment and may be sprinkled as the treatment proceeds. The spikes of the rollers 21 may be “'' to 1¢'' long and may be radial or inclined in the feeding direction.
