Abstract

405,953. Containers for photosensitive material. RENWICK, F. F., 6, Reed Pond Walk, Gidea Park, Essex. Aug. 13, 1932, No. 22747. [Class 98 (ii).] Joints between separable portions of a container more particularly for sensitive photographic material are sealed by a layer of waterproof material overlying the joint, covered by a wider layer of shrunk-on material. The waterproof layer may comprise adhesive tape, a rubber band, or a coating of rubber latex, rubber suspension or solution, paraffin or plastic wax; and the outer layer may comprise a cellulose ester, regenerated cellulose, or gelatin, and is applied in moist state so that it shrinks tight as it dries. As shown, the joint between the body 2 and lid 1 of a cylindrical metal container for photographic roll films is sealed by applying first a rubber band 3, and over this a wider shrunk-on band 4 of viscose. A vacuum seal may be produced in known manner. A cutter cord 5 is provided beneath the viscose layer to facilitate opening.
