Abstract

A water-soluble control agent for addition to a bath for the electro-deposition of tin is prepared by reacting cresol substantially free from o-cresol with gelatin, aloin, or an aldehyde such as formaldehyde, and then sulphonating the product. Alternatively, the cresol and the gelatin, aloin, or aldehyde may be sulphonated before reaction. Detailed examples are given.
