[Class 141.] Beadings, edgings, drip and cornice mouldings, and the like, for attachment to the bodies of motor and other vehicles, are provided with a series of attachment devices permanently secured thereto and consisting of short spikes formed either with barbed points or as prongs adapted to spread apart when driven home. The spikes d may be fixed at intervals to a metal strip e embedded in the moulding a, as shown in Fig. 2, and such spikes may be made separately and welded or otherwise secured to the strip e, or they may be made integral with the strip by stamping them out of the edges thereof, as shown in Fig. 5, or by punching them out of the body of the strip, as shown in Fig. 7. Alternatively, the attachment devices may be formed from a piece of wire or metal strip bent upon itself, as shown in Fig. 8, so as to form two prongs f having bevelled points f <1>. The prongs f may also be barbed. Where the backing to which the moulding is attached comprises material g of shallow depth mounted on a metal foundation h, as shown in Fig. 11, the prongs f not only spread when driven home but are deflected when they meet the metal foundation. In the case of metal beadings, the attachment devices may be cast in the beading, or the face of the beading may be provided with an undercut channel a<1>, Fig. 10, and the head f of the attachment device is secured therein by rolling over the lips a<2> of the channel. The attachment devices may also be welded or soldered to a metal moulding, or the latter may be perforated to receive the attachment devices. Members f with bevelled points may also be stamped out of the opposite edges of a metal strip as in the case of the barbed spikes shown in Fig. 4, and such members, after being bent at right angles to the strip, are twisted, as shown in Fig. 12, so that they spread apart when driven home. The second Provisional Specification describes also the fixing of the attachment devices in mouldings of fabric, rubber, wood, and the like, and the formation of the devices as integral parts of a metal moulding.
