Abstract

402,700. Hinges. AUSTER, Ltd., and DAVY, J. F., 174, Barford Street, Birmingham. July 7, 1933, No. 19253. [Class 65 (ii).] A translucent or semi-opaque glass or other anti-dazzle panel 1 for the use of vehicle drivers is mounted at one edge so as to be slidable and angularly adjustable upon the lower or outer member 2 or part or one of the sides of a frame 2, 3, 5, which is mounted at its upper or inner end, so as to be angularly adjustable on a bracket fixed above the windscreen. The panel 1 is frictionally clamped to the cross-bar 2 of the frame by jaws 7, 8, adjustably connected by a screw and nut 9, 11, the jaw 7 being integral with a U-section member 6 secured to the panel. The upper cross-bar 5 of the frame is adjustably gripped by a similar device, one jaw of which is screwed to the roof of the vehicle or to the windscreen frame. Instead of being joined by an upper cross-bar, the side-members 3 may carry serrated plates at their upper ends spring- pressed into contact, or locked by nuts, with serrated faces on opposite sides of a central lug of an attachment plate, or a cone friction joint may be provided between the frame and plate. In a modification the arms 3 of the frame are bent away from the windscreen to prevent interference with the windscreen-wiper. The frame may be of circular, oval, rectangular, or U-shape or may have laterally-inclined parallel sides, and in some constructions may also be laterally adjustable on its supporting bracket.
