Abstract
402,340. Batteries. BLTD, K., 15, Limonenstrasse, Dahlem, Berlin. May 8, 1933, No. 13348. [Class 53.] A dry battery dolly is wrapped in material g which is wound round the dolly with more than one complete turn. The inner and outer ends a, b of the wrapping may be moistened to hold it in position before the dolly is inserted in the outer container. The wrapping may be applied so that the weft threads run longitudinally. Fig. 7 is a side view of a machine for cutting lengths of wrapping material and winding them round the dollies, Fig. 8 showing various positions of the wrapping mechanism. A chain conveyer supports the dollies on pairs of rollers 18 between which arc notches 19 in the links for receiving the projecting portions of the carbon rods. The upper portion of the conveyer is prevented from sagging by a pair of supporting ledges 14. The wrapping material g is unwound intermittently from a roller 20 by means of a roller 21 which is given an intermittent movement by a latch mechanism, gearing and levers 24 actuated by a cam 23 on the main shaft. The material passes under a cutter 25 actuated by a cam 28 and the severed portion is passed on by the conveyer to the dolly feeding position. The dollies are then placed on the rollers 18 over the severed portions of material either by hand or by a grooved roller 29 which is loaded with dollies by hand or from an inclined feeding table 31 and which is rotated intermittently. Each dolly now passes under a vertically reciprocating block 38 which is so shaped that it presses the ends of the wrapping material round the rollers 18 as shown in Fig. 8, II. At the same time two troughs 42 in a vessel 41 containing water or adhesive are raised to moisten the ends of the wrapping which lie over the rollers 18. The troughs 42 are carried as shown in Fig. 13 by a block 43 which is raised at intervals by levers 47 and a cam 46 on the shaft 12. The block 38 is reciprocated by levers 45 and a cam 36. When the block 38 and the troughs 42 move away from the dolly P the wrapping again assumes a horizontal position and on the forward movement of the conveyer the front edge of the wrapping is raised by a member 48 as shown in Fig. 8, III. The member 48 may be reciprocated with the troughs 42. Further movement of the conveyer causes the wrapping to strike a guide 49 which bends the wrapping as shown in position IV. In this position a roller 50 unrolls the wrapping until the end lies between the dolly and one of the rollers 18 as shown at V, the wetted end of the material causing it to adhere to the surface of the dolly. The dolly then passes beneath another roller 52 which rotates in the opposite direction and completes the winding operation. Several rollers such as 52 may be arranged one behind another to assist in applying the wrapping tightly.
