Abstract

Class 39 (i).] Cathodes, particularly thermionic cathodes of large surface, are supported firmly in position, and gripped, by one or more springs. An indirectly heated cathode comprising an insulating core 1, Fig. 1, with an emissive coating 7 is pressed by a spring 3 against a fixed counterbearing 2. The parts 2, 3 may serve as current leads for the straight or spiral heater 4 inside the core 1, and the heater 4 may prevent lateral displacement of the core 1. In a modific tion, Fig. 3, two springs 5, 6 grip a cathode 7, which may be of the directly heated type.
