400,853. Refrigerating ; coil-tube heat-exchangers. SULZER FRERES SOC. ANON., Winterthur, Switzerland.-(Assignees of Kobi, R., Rapperswil, Berne, Switzerland.) April 19, 1933, No. 11455. Convention date, May 20, 1932. [Classes 29 and 64 (iii).] A heat-exchanger such as the evaporator of a refrigerating-machine comprises headers 1 and 2 connected by rigid non-helical pipes 4 and also by pipes 3 helically wound round the rigid pipes. Refrigerant may be delivered from a pipe 5 through pipes 6 to nozzles 7 in the lower ends of tubes 3 or to intermediate parts of the tubes. The refrigerant rises and is partially evaporated in tubes 3 and the vapour is led off from header 1 while the liquid returns to header 2 through tubes 4. Tubes 4 may be heat insulated, for instance bv a vacuum jacket. To construct the apparatus one end of each pipe 4 is welded into an aperture provided in one header. Helical tubes 3 are now placed around the pipes 4 and rotated round them so that one end of each helical pipe is driven into an aperture provided in the header already welded to the rigid pipes. The second header is now welded to the rigid pipes and the helical tubes rotated in the reverse direction so that their free ends enter apertures in the second header. The helical tubes are then welded at both ends to the headers to complete the construction.
