[Class 65 (ii).] In a hinge comprising a plate 3 mounted on a ferrule 4 having a central passage for a securing screw or the like 19, the ferrule is formed with a shouldered head 11 having a conical part fitting in and forming a bearing for a complementary tapered hole 7 in the plate 3, and the conical part is so formed and proportioned that it projects beyond the inner surface of the plate 3 to form an abutment adapted to engage the member 2 to which the ferrule is secured. The form of hinge shown is adapted for application to a closet seat, and the hinge plate 3 is preferably sunk flush into the hinged parts, the fixing screws being countersunk in holes 6 and the ferrule securing screw 19 being similarly countersunk in the head of the ferrule. The cylindrical portion of the ferrule 4 is a push fit in a bore of the member 2, and the conical part of the ferrule bears against the edge of the bore at 15 and so prevents the screw 19 from being tightened sufficiently to cause the ferrule to bind in the aperture 7 of the plate 3 or the plate to bind against the bottom of the recess in member 2.
