400,667. Projectile fuzes. ALIQUO, F., 138A, Via Emanuele Filiberto, Rome. Jan.. 22, 1932, No. 28537/33. Convention date, Jan. 23, 1931. Divided on 400,612. [Class 9 (i).] A centrifugally operated safety device comprising a spiral member 1, Fig. 1, adapted to rotate a screw spindle 3 to release a device such as a centrifugal bolt 6 is delayed in operation until the projectile has left the gun barrel by a brake 8 operated by inertia and the pressure of a spring 12. In a modification, Fig. 2, the spiral member 1 drives the spindle 3 through the intermediary of a sleeve 14 feathered to the spindle 3, and the braking disc 15 is pressed back by air pressure admitted by a passage 16 in the nose of the fuze body 2. The centrifugal bolt 6 released by the screwspindle 3 carries a firing-pin 10 into line with a fixed percussion cap 11 ; or the percussion cap is carried by the centrifugal bolt and the firing- pin is fixed. A spring 13 is disposed in compression on one side of the bolt as shown, or in tension on the other side. A detent may be provided to prevent the return of the centrifugal bolt when once it has moved out.
