Abstract
400,544. Making bearings. BLAIR, A. and REBBECK, F. E., c/o Harland & Wolff, Ltd., Queen's Island, Belfast. May 18, 1933. No. 14378. [Class 83 (ii).] Journal bearings for the big-ends of connecting-rods comprising pads P of antifriction metal such as bronze protruding from the shell or bush F and interlocked with it, are made by first machining slots A, B in the bush so as to leave a dove-tail rib G, slotting the bush longitudinally from opposite ends to form recesses H with undercut sides, the gaps between the rib G and spacing ribs N being filled by fillets K welded into them, and then inserting the pads P from the ends. The remainder of the recesses H have fillets C welded into them. Undercut annular slots D, E are then machined in the bush across the ends of the pads for the reception of segmental rings L protruding from the surface of the bush the same amount as the pads. The rings L are then machined to form grooves between them and the pads.
