399,799. Valve-spring compressors. KULP, H. W. and DELLINGER, M. C., 510, North Plum Street, Lancaster, Pennsylvania, U.S.A. April 8, 1932, No. 10127. Convention date, Aug. 3, 1931. [Class 61 (ii).] A valve-spring lifter comprises a frame 3 carrying a jaw 2 to engage the valvespring washer E and a post 18 with foot 1 to engage the valve head movable in a sleeve 10 pivoted at 8, 9 to parallel movement levers 4, 5 pivoted to the frame 3 at 6, 7 and actuated by a pivoted lever 11 and cam 13 with link 14 jointed to cam 13 and lever 5 so that in the closed position of the lever the line of thrust of the link 14 passes to the rear of the lever pivot 12. The post 18 has rack teeth 19 and is adjustable in the sleeve 10 by a pinion 20 and hand-wheel 21, the sleeve 10 carrying a spring-pressed pivoted catch 22 with lip 24 such that post 18 is freely adjustable downwardly in the sleeve but is held against upward movement during the operation of the device by the nipping of the lip 24 between the bottom edges of the sleeve 10 and the next lower tooth on rack 19. 399,828. [Class 138 (i).] Apparatus for cleaning inkwells and like containers comprises a tray 1 formed with apertures 2 and recessed to receive inverted inkwells 3 which are adapted to be cleansed by liquid sprayed from perforated pipes 17 connected to a main pipe 10. Cleansing liquid from a tank 4 is forced through the pipe 10 by means of a hand-operated pump 14. The pipe 10 is adapted to be connected by a tube 16 and a flexible pipe to a source of hot-water supply which may be applied to the inkwells before or after treatment by the cleansing liquid in the tank 4. A tiltable tray 19 is mounted beneath the tray 1 to catch the liquid used, which may be returned to the tank 4 by way of a pipe 21, or drained off to waste by the pipe 22, according to the position of the tray 19. A filter is provided in the tank 4. A hinged presser board, consisting of two boards 7, 8 of unequal width to suit two different sizes of inkwell, maintains the inkwells in place on the tray 4.
