Abstract

397,504. Boxes for wet fish &c. GEORGE, D., Lyndal, Sketty Road, Swansea. Feb. 19, 1932, No. 5044. [Class 18.] A box or crate for wet fish or other merchandise comprises an outer member which may be of the size and capacity of the usual oblong fish box and which is formed mainly of galvanized hoop iron or other metal laths 10, 11, 16, Fig. 2, secured to one another and to angle members 12 .. 15 by riveting or by spot welding, triangular gusset plates being provided at the corners of the bottom to resist deformation and top edge members 17 .. 20 of inverted U-section being arranged to embrace the upper ends of the laths 16. These V- section members may enclose strengthening wires and may be constituted by a single strip. The corners are constituted by angle-pieces 21 . : 24 and the sides and ends may contain horizontal laths (not shown). Wood battens may be secured at the sides and so connected at the bottom as to prevent sliding of the box or crate on the ground. An inner lining 25, Fig. 3, e.g. a collapsable structure of cardboard waterproofed with paraffin wax, ozokerite, &c., orTa multi-ply paper sack is held, in place by a lid comprising elements 29, 30, Fig. 2, hinged at the upper ends of the box or crate, so that they can turn down inside the crate when empty or can be secured together over the lining by a soft iron tongue 32 passing through a slot in the member 29 or by other means. A binding wire and seal may be used on the tongue 32. An alternative closure is shown in Fig. 5 in which the container mouth frame 17 .. 20 carries drop handle 31 and a frame 36, 37 hooks at 38 over the hinge section of one handle and is secured at the other end to short hinged strips 42 by rotatable T-headed fasteners 40. When the closure members are inside the body the containers may be nested. A slightly modified form of body is also described.
