[Class 81 (ii).] An electrode for diathermy treatment comprises a tray, support, or receptacle containing or covered with electricallyconducting plastic or thermoplastic material and means for connecting the material to a source of electricity. The tray may be of conducting material with or without an insulating covering, or of non-conducting material lined with conducting material such as metal foil which does not extend to the edges of the tray. When required to treat only a portion of the area covered by the tray-an impression is first taken with non-conducting plastic material which after hardening is removed at those parts to the treated and replaced by conducting material, a second impression being then taken. Alternatively the conducting lining where used is applied where required in strips which are connected to a common or to separate electrodes. As applied to the mouth a vulcanite or like tray 1, similar to a dental impression tray, having a lining 3 of metal foil applied to leave an unlined margin 4, has a hollow insulating stem 2 through which passes a conductor 6 connected to a terminal 5 and to a metal plate 7 contacting with the lining 3. The invention is also applicable to the treatment of the vagina, rectum, nose, ear, or external parts of the body.
