Abstract

397,264. Preventing lodgment of ashes &c. BABCOCK & WILCOX, Ltd. and SAMUELS, B., Babcock House, Farringdon Street, London. May 19, 1932, No. 14296. [Class 51 (i).] To prevent ashes &c. rising with the gases from the grate of a boiler furnace being deposited on the tubes or clogging the gas passages, air or flue gas or a mixture thereof under pressure is delivered from boxes M, N, O disposed in the walls of the combustion chamber B through downwardly directed nozzles O to form opposed screens of air or gas by which the solid particles are projected back on to the grate. The air or gas is supplied by a fan K. When air is employed it is withdrawn by the fan from the ashpit H or supplied from the pressure side of the damper R in the conduit G supplying air to the ashpit.
