Abstract

397,260. Ball games. BARTLETT, G. H., The Rectory, Cley-next-the-Sea, Norfolk. May 14, 1932, No. 13884. [Class 132 (ii).] A sports net having sufficient resilience to cause a tennis ball, cricket ball, or football propelled thereagainst to be returned at considerable speed comprises an ordinary net of cord or other non-elastic substance, four elastic members or a single continuous elastic member H, Fig. 1, running through the outer meshes of the net and passing over hooks or pulleys J (or through loose rings L, Fig. III, or over pulleys attached to the loose rings) on the bars or poles of a rectangular frame of which one of the horizontal bars (and if desired also one of the vertical ones) is adjustable in slots D or by means of jaws or rings M for the purpose of producing considerable resilience in the net. In a modification, Fig. IV, each of the outer meshes of the net is attached to the frame by a short elastic cord or a spiral spring O. The frame may be supported by folding back stays F, Fig. 1, or may be fixed permanently in the ground, or may be erected inside a building, use being made of the walls or ceiling as part of the fixed frame. Three of the nets may be erected in the form of a miniature fives court.
