[Classes 12 (ii) and 12 (iii).] A plug cock connecting two pipes 4, 5, one, 4, of which always contains pressure fluid, comprises in combination a lubricant supply chamber 20 constantly subjected to the pressure in the pipe 4 and in constant communication with longitudinal lubricating grooves on the surfaces of the plug 9 and its body 1, the said grooves terminating in the contacting surfaces of the plug and its body, and conduits also in the plug and its body which are open to the atmosphere and can be brought into and out of communication with the longitudinal grooves when the plug is rotated. The grooves or the conduits referred to may be in the plug only or in the cock body only. The chamber 20 is closed by a piston 21 the piston rod of which is guided in an axial bore 23 leading lubricant by way of radial passages 24 to diametrically opposite longitudinal grooves 25 in the surface of the plug. Further radial passages 24<1> conduct lubricant to longitudinal grooves 26 in a liner 8 when the plug cock is open. The conduits which open to the atmosphere are in the form of pairs of small grooves or striµ 27, 28 in the conical surfaces of the plug 9 and liner 8 respectively, opening to the atmosphere at the lower end 13 of the plug and registering with the grooves 26, 25 respectively when the cock is closed by an anticlockwise rotation of 90‹. In the latter position of the plug, the pipe 5 is connected to the atmosphere by a right-angle passage 11, 12 opening into the face 13. The chamber 17 at the larger end of the cock is constantly subject to the pressure in the pipe 4 by means of a passage 18 and is closed by a cap 16 removable for filling purposes. A spring 14 presses the plug 9 to its seat.
